Accountability Numbers
This week: Up 3 pounds (Yikes.)
Overall: Down 8 pounds
I do not understand how I could gain three pounds while doing a lot of walking and eating what I thought was quite a bit less than usual. Truthfully, I guess the answer is simple. I was eating more than I thought. But three pounds??!! I don't think I could have eaten enough additional calories in one week to gain three pounds (all while thinking I was eating less.) Maybe there is some water fluctuation involved too.
But I have to admit that I have gained while on vacation before. I always seem to think I'm eating less when in reality I'm eating more.

It's hard going isn't it?
Maybe some of that is muscle? Sometimes we lose muscle mass as well as fat when we start dieting, and then gain the muscle back with exercise. It doesn't take that much muscle to add 3 lbs... how are your clothes fitting these days?
Don't forget that muscle weighs more than fat! Early in my post-gastric bypass life, it was drummed into us that we need to take measurements as well as weigh ourselves. Sure enough, some weeks I wouldn't lose a pound, but I would lose an entire size.
By the way, I bit the bullet and started a new blog with Blogger. I guess I'll abandon Jabberwocky and hope that I keep up with this new one!
Thanks, Jackie.
This muscle idea is interesting, Kate and Ruthann. I did walk a whole lot-- several miles a day or more, I think. And my clothes are fitting very well. Could it be muscle?
Ruthann, what's the address of the new blog? I can't wait. (Oh, I bet i'm linked through your comment, right?
I'm of the opinion that the weekly weigh-in isn't always a reflection of only what we did or didn't have during only the week that passed - sometimes what we ate 2 weeks ago takes that long to lay itself down as fat and doesn't "show up" until a couple of weeks later. So, I try really hard to look at the TREND - am I GENERALLY going in the right direction?
Not that it always works....
But I suspect all that hard work you've put in will show up too next week!
That makes sense, Alexa. I'll look to next week.
Yes I often lost inches but no weight because of exercising. It's better to weigh a little more & be toned/fit rather than lighter & unfit..hope this helps. Hoping not to ruin my good work whilst I'm on holiday this week!
dont get too frustrated as several things go into effect when you start exercising. The muscles you are using will retain some water and in a week it normally will return to where you were before. you may be gaining muscle but it wont weigh more but will take up less room so you should fit better into those clothes.
Thank you, Jackie and cropangel. This makes a lot of sense. Today (Thurs) I was actually two pounds lighter than yesterday.
Well, if we didn't fall off the wagon, we couldn't get back on, right?
Yep, muscle weighs more...probably that walking...the only other explanation I could offer is more salt intake and fluid retention, but if your clothes fit nicely. ??? It'll pass! ;)
