In our house, Christmas is not over!!

Are there people who really regard Christmas as over on the 26th? My neighbors have their Christmas tree on the curb! We only put ours up about a week ago. I told my husband if they put theirs out any earlier and we put ours up any later theirs may actually be down before ours is even up!! (Just kidding.)

My mother always refused to take down any Christmas decorations before the 6th, when the wise men arrived. We moved the little wise men figures all around the living room until they finally arrived at the stable on the 6th.

Sooo...we usually do not take our tree down until the weekend AFTER the sixth. I don't know what the neighbors must think. But we like it that way.

Yes, there are plenty of trees at curbs around here too.

Our tree stays up until Epiphany, at least.

I like the idea of moving the Wise Men around until they reach the stable. Maybe next year we will try that!

Ours is still up too, and we turn the lights on as well!

We move our wise men around, too!

We put our tree up the weekend before Christmas and decorate it Christmas Eve. This year was pretty close to the wire -- Teddy finished decorating at while I sang at Midnight Mass! It was a pleasure to drive into the driveway and see it lit in the front window.

We, too, keep it up at least until after Epiphany, sometimes as late as the Baptism of Our Lord. I don't care what the neighbors think -- BAH HUMBUG to them!

While I'm thinking of it, HAPPY NEW YEAR, ROSE! May 2008 bring you blessings and joy!

Bishop Robert Baker recalled on EWTN yesterday that, while taking an afternoon walk in his former diocese of Charleston, SC, a Christmas tree, tossed from a third floor balcony nearly hit him. It was 3PM on Christmas Day!
That's why, now that he's bishop of Birmingham, AL, he's doing a special on EWTN about celebrating the 12 days of Christmas with a Christ candle.

That sounds great. I think everyone would like to celebrate Christmas longer but don't understand that it's liturgically appropriate! And OK!
