Frost on the Pumpkin
A recipe of Helen Bailhe’s, may she rest in peace
1 cup pumpkin
½ cup brown sugar
½ tsp. salt
½ tsp. cinnamon
½ tsp. ginger
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
1 quart vanilla ice cream
about 1 dozen ginger snap cookie, crushed into crumbs
powdered sugar
Combine pumpkin, brown sugar, salt, and spices. Stir ice cream to soften; then fold into pumpkin mixture. Pour into a shallow dish. (I use a 1½ quart casserole dish).Sprinkle with ginger snap crumbs. On top of crumbs, sprinkle powdered sugar. Freeze firm. Serve with whipped cream, if desired.

This sounds wonderful! Thank you for sharing it. I look forward to trying it soon.
This does sound delicious, Rosemary. Thanks for the recipe.
I have two pumpkin pies that I just took out of the oven and may have to have a slice tonight - the aroma is so tempting right now.
Hi Rose!
MMMMMMMMMMMM....sounds delicious. Can't wait to try it, knowing it belongs to your family, how much you love your mom and the tradition behind it. Thanks for sharing it.
I just read an article(somewhere!) about a woman who made this round-the-town famous cake. She brought it to every social occasion and people would literally line up to buy it at the country fairs and bazaars and so on. For years and years, people begged her for the "secret recipe" and she never would reveal it, not even to her own children She took it to the grave. What a shame not to share something that made so many people happy.
I'm always grateful to receive recipes like yours...so is my family!
Happy Thanksgiving!
You're welcome, everybody. It's one of those old recipes with normal ingredients, not too complicated and really yummy.
Mary, I love your story of the unshared recipe. This recipe was also lost for many years, not through secrecy by through my own negligence in not writing it down while my mom awa still OK. I think I'll write the rest of the story in today's post. Hope you had a nice Thanksgiving too.
Sounds delicious, I'll have to copy it and try it sometime.
Wow, this sounds WAY too good! I just *may* have to try this out for Christmas...don't think i could wait til Thanksgiving!! Thanks for sharing. Oh! and tell your kids that your *secret* is safe with me :O) LOL
