My daughter came home from school on Thursday complaining of a sore throat and nausea. She threw up several times after we got home and spent Friday with more of the same. Her tummy was what really bothered her. On Saturday morning I asked if her throat still hurt and she said yes, but not as badly as before. Thinking I was probably wasting our time I took her in for a throat swab. It was strep!! I was so glad I went in. I knew that strep could cause an upset stomach (as well as a headache) but I thought it would at least be accompanied by an awful sore throat, not just a moderate one. Anyway, good news was she was practically fine after 24 hours. She was out of bed, appetite back, and by today she was 100%. What a relief.
I hear there's a lot of strep going around here.... Everybody, stay well.

I'm so pleased your daughter made a speedy recovery. My daughter was off school today with a sore throat and headache, but the whole Health Service thing is very different here in England, you can't just go and have a swab taken and they would never let you know the result that day or even necessarily the week after. Most tests on the nhs, we have to wait 2 weeks for the results.
So we just battle on with our sore throats, our sickness etc.
Still today my son and I had a flu jab as we have asthma and hopefully that will prevent us from getting flu, which can lead to pneumonoia and death for 3-4,000 asthmatics in my country every year.
Cheery tonight aren't i, LOL!!!
Glad she is doing OK now! Strep is funny that way; it's actually to the point where I almost hope it's strep and not the "mystery virus" because I know that with the right meds, strep is kicked quick and the kid is feeling good in no time.
Deb, two weeks!!? I called that morning, had an appointment in two hours and got the results while I was there. It's a ten minute test. Wow. Guess I have nothing to complain about. I hope your daughter feels better soon too.
Barb, I know. Strep is serious, especially untreated, but I have to admit It's wonderful to get your child on those antibiotics and have them completely turn around in 24 hours. What a blessing.
Hi Rose!
Kiss that girl for me =0)!
PS 'Saw your college-aged son at Mass on Sunday. Your motherhood is inspirational!
Oh I'm glad you took her for that swab. So hard to make that decision sometimes. I kept my 5yo, Mary Catherine, home once last week when she had a runny nose and a fever. She was great the next day so I sent her back. This morning she sneezed and said to me, "how about I stay home again?" ... LOL ... NOT.
Peace,
Judy
We've been having that around here lately also!! Yuck!
Also Rosemary, I will soon be making my blog available by invitation only. If you are interested, pop by and let me know, thanks!!
Lori, I am interested and I tried to come by and tell you but it won't let me because of the "invitation." Hope you see this. I don't know how to email you. :-)
we don't have that swab thing..we just get sore throats..is it the same as tonsillitis?
Oh poor baby! My baby (2yo) has it too. Now she's got a rash. I'm waiting for a call back from the dr to see if it's normal or a reaction from the meds. Hope your daughter gets well soon.
Mrs. Jackie, the swab is just a q-tip thing they swab around the throat and then they put it in some kind of chemical that tells them if it's a strep bacteria (and thus treatable by antibiotics) Tonsilitis could be from strep but it isn't necessarily.
Wheelbarrow manor, oooh, poor thing. Hope your daughter is well soon too.
