Go Irish!!!!!!

Go Irish!!!!!!!!!

As a graduate of Michigan and a member of the Notre Dame family (since my son is a domer), I can't lose today. One of these teams is finally GOING to win. But my allegiance is to Notre Dame because of maternal pride and my sincere belief that Notre Dame is Our Lady's school. (Although I realize that there are those with limited information who think otherwise.)

My Dh's late grandfather agreed with you wholeheartedly!

Good luck to your team.

Oh my goodness. It appears that ND doesn't really have a team this this year. So sad.

Hi Rose,

Somebody hijacked the team bus to Ann Arbor and kidnapped our players!

We, still are, ND =0)!

Love Thee Notre Dame!

Rosemary, I'm crying here with you.

Never give up. I think this freshman QB has the talent. They just need the other guys to protect him.

Win or lose, I will always love ND!

Does ND have a "mandatum" or do its theology profs.?

Sorry hit "enter" before I finished my post..
if the school does not have the "mandatum" why not? It states it is a Catholic Universty so why not have the "mandatum"?

I was rooting for Notre Dame. Oh well.

But, HEY, Florida beat Tennessee!

Thank you for telling me your experience when I had my recent scare. That was SO INSIGHTFUL for me. God bless.

It is a simple question, Mary.

One of the few professors who has written publicly about the mandatum is Notre Dame law professor emeritus Charles Rice.

Rice, writing for the Observer, the daily newspaper at Notre Dame, said: "It is fair to say that if Notre Dame will not ensure that its required courses in theology are faithful to the Church's magisterium, those courses (and required philosophy courses) should no longer be required. If the professors want to do their own thing, let them and the university abandon any claim that it is the 'Catholic' thing and let the students decide whether to take such courses."

I guess some people think that the mandatum really is not important, is that right Mary?

No? Really? Irrelevent.

It's your approach, Karin. It's your lurking about only to pounce when there is a ND post and then never to say any thing positive about this magnificent Catholic university.

Love Thee Notre Dame,
Mary

PS

Charles Rice's daughter and daughter-in-law are a good friends of mine and, guess what? Despite the imperfections, Mr. Rice, his entire entire family...wife, ten kids, their spouses(many of whom are alumni) and grandchildren all love Notre Dame.

Love Thee Notre Dame,
Mary

Yes Mary it would seem that many have no problem that this "catholic" school has no mandatum, WHY?
Does the little good there is outway this?
Here is a bit of positive for ya...ND has a great football team :)

And regarding the repost from Mr. Rice, I guess you missed the point? May I suggest that you read it again "It is fair to say that if Notre Dame will not ensure that its required courses in theology are faithful to the Church's magisterium, those courses (and required philosophy courses) should no longer be required. If the professors want to do their own thing, let them and the university abandon any claim that it is the 'Catholic' thing and let the students decide whether to take such courses."
I never questioned if Mr. Rice and his family loved ND or not, what I question is WHY a "catholic" university does not seek the mandatum, very simple.

Mary,
In case it was not clear, my question is not just towards ND but all universities /colleges that state they ae "catholic" but refuse to seek the mandatum.
I as a Catholic parent of soon to be college kids have to wonder just how "Catholic" these schools really are.
HEre is a good article about what I am talking about...

Mary,

I guess liberal catholics can even be found at ND. Perhaps when the liberals leave, ND can once again become a true "Catholic" school and not one in name only!

Ta-Ta!

Karin, welcome to reality, nobody's perfect and there are sinners within the Church, I sure hope this isn't news for you!

James,

No, say it aint so (of course it is not news)
But shouldnt we hold the institutions that are supposed to be teaching theology to our kids to a higher level? Dont we want to guarantee that what they are learning is truly in line with the Church?

Mary-

LOL!
You really have no idea what the mandatum is do you?
That is ok, but perhaps you should educate yourself on the matter, you might surprise yourself by what you learn :)
