Marco Rubio has suspended his campaign.

I voted for him. I voted for him because he was conservative, (Yes, conservative despite his attempts to arrive at a bipartisan solution for immigration. He approached the immigration issue with common sense and compassion), intelligent, articulate, and principled. Sadly, I see none of those qualities in the current front runner.

I voted for him because he seemed a man of strong faith. Before one of the debates he got down on his knees and wrote a cross on his nameplate.

He defended the family and the unborn. I believed he had a clear sense of right and wrong.

In short, I believed, and still believe, that Marco Rubio is a man of integrity.

Had I not been convinced of all these things, his speech last night would have done so. I hope you will listen to it, if the above link works. :-) Sometimes, it doesn't.

Here is the text of the conclusion (from the LA Times.)

.......And I want to leave with an expression of gratitude to God in whose hands all things lie. He has a plan for every one of our lives. Everything that comes from God is good. God is perfect. God makes no mistakes. And he has things planned for all of us. And we await eagerly to see what lies ahead. And so I leave tonight with one final prayer, and I use the words of King David because I remain grateful to God:
“Yours O Lord is the greatness and the power and the glory and the victory and the majesty, indeed everything that is in the heavens and the earth. Yours is the dominion, O Lord, and you exalt yourself as head overall. Both riches and honor come from you and you rule over all. And in your hand is power and might and it lies in your hand to make great and to strengthen everyone.”
May God strengthen our people. May God strengthen our nation. May God strengthen the conservative movement. May God strengthen the Republican Party. May God strengthen our eventual nominee. And may God always bless and strengthen this great nation, the United States of America. Thank you and God bless you all. Thank you very much.
These are the words of a good and decent man. Marco Rubio is young. I hope he will run again.

I just read your post. Sen. Rubio was definitely my candidate because of all the factors you mentioned. His message of optimism and vision for the country resonated with me. He may lack executive experience, but he's obviously thought about the issues and expresses his views eloquently. I especially appreciated his answer to an atheist who questioned why a man of faith should be President (https://avemariaradio.net/responding-to-atheist-rubio-has-perhaps-best-answer-about-religion-ever-by-a-republican/).

I tuned in to his concession speech Tueday evening without realizing at first that that's what it was. I believe that was the first time in my life I've cried during a political speech. I've read all the things that try to explain the Trump phenomenon, but I still just don't understand how someone so relentlessly offensive can appeal to so many people.

Rubio's speech Tuesday was masterful, and I was so impressed that he continued to smile as he gave it and professed his faith in our Lord. Yesterday to console myself I printed the first two paragraphs that you mentioned and tacked them up on my cubicle wall. Now I'm hoping and praying for a miracle involving John Kasich.

Dawn, thank you for this thoughtful comment. Yes,I was touched too. I always thought that Rubio had the humility to be a good president. Perhaps his day will still come. He's young.

I also do not understand the Trump phenomenon. You are so right when you call him "relentlessly offensive." We must pray for our country.

Thanks for reading my post. :-)

I just listened to his speech. What a class act. I didn't vote for him in the MI primary only because I knew that a candidate needed to get at least 15 percent of the vote in order to get a piece of the delegate pie, and it was becoming pretty clear by a day or two before that he wasn't going to hit that threshold, so I voted for Cruz, in hopes he can still wrest the nomination from Trump. God bless Rubio and his family as they pray about what God has for them next.

Theresa, yes, I know several Michigan voters who voted for Cruz with that specific thought in mind. It was a legitimate strategic move and I considered it myself. Had Rubio spoken earlier as he did in his concession speech, I wonder if his numbers would have been higher. He seems a man of great faith. I'm encouraged that he is young and perhaps will run again.
