Just came back yesterday from a fun overnight trip to South Bend where the girls and I visited my oldest son Mike and some good friends! We met Mike and the O'Hannigans for lunch, then visited the bookstore and grotto at Notre Dame. Other than Lourdes France, I don't think there's any place like the grotto at ND.

Went to Mass at the gorgeous Basilica of the Sacred Heart!!

Then we were treated to a delicious pizza dinner with the O'Hannigans complete with delicious bread and chocolate chip cookies!! Mary, you're amazing.

After dinner Mike and his roommate taught us to play the card game "Bang." Lots of confusion, lots of laughs, and just plain fun with old family friends. Good stuff.

Kind of tired now. Trying to get moving but enjoying the reality that this can be an easy day. No school. No appointments. And I do need some rest....

Hi Rose!

Thank YOU for a day of merriment and fun =) We love your family <3

Recently I was reading about the concept of "Thin Places". I'd never heard the term before but it's a Celtic description for places (and experiences) where the veil separating heaven and earth is so thin, they almost touch. In the Hawaiian culture the term is "Lanikuhonua". Anyway, the Grotto is such a place. So is everywhere Mass is celebrated, for Joey "Thin Places" exist on the soccer field.

When you were here and we were together, Lanikuhonua was happening~big time!

Love Ya!

Ohhh, Mary, what a beautiful idea. And, yes, all the fun we had, "Bang," your wonderful hospitality, and the joy of being with your family....definitely "thin places" were happening. And the grotto? Always! Without a doubt. And certainly every Catholic church but places that inspire awesome reverence like the Basilica....they are especially so, don't you think? Love you guys too! See you soon.

Rosemary,
I left you two comments on that last place you commented to me, but since I'm here, I have one more comment.;)!
Fort Wayne is 3 hours from me.
You can read the other comments if you will, as I had something I wanted to tell you there and that I am praying about this summer to meet you.

Rosemary,

I love the Basilica there -- it's gorgeous!

The only other place I have visited in this country that is more impressive is the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception.

Thanks for sharing these photos -- they bring back good memories.
