I love the ocean...

Fun, fun, fun...

Don't you just love the ocean? It is so magnificent, so powerful, and so awe-inspiring. On this last trip my children really enjoyed riding the waves in the Atlantic on body boards. They are all good swimmers but I still rather compulsively counted heads after each big wave....

The boys accidentally piggybacked their boards. That's why the laughing faces....

The crashing waves....

What is the definition of an over-protective mom? One who worries about her "children" swimming in the ocean when three of them are certified lifeguards!!! I'm guilty as charged. I knew it was completely irrational but those waves were really BIG. LOL

OH NO! You are not over protective.
The under currents are bad there at times, so I'd be the same exact way.
In fact I was. My sister and her husband and our two daughters were out there playing...some under currents grabbed my sister and she was fighting for her life. When she finally got help up, you would not believe how filled up her swim suit was with sand. She came up looking like she had gained 20 pounds in her bottom and front area! She said it was so frightening! Nope...you are not guilty of anything I wouldn't be! :)
Glad ya'll had such fun though! :)

That looks like so much fun! My skin is so fair that I spend most of the day at the beach under an umbrella. I am glad you had a nice trip, and the cloud photos are awesome! Which beach were you having fun at?

Hi Rose!

Wow! How great to see your children having fun in the surf! Usually our Michigan kids are in snowsuits-so to see them at the beach is especially terrific!

The seaside is supernatural and it's what we miss most about our life in Hawaii. When we go home, we step off the plane and drive as fast as we can-safely, of course =0)-to the beach. To see our children paying on the beaches we played on as kids is the best! And yes, we count heads CONSTANTLY!! It's a big ocean!

After running/rosary time in the am, I listen to Israel Kamakawiwo'ole's new cd "Wonderful World" (Suzanne-yes there is a new one!)because his "White Sandy Beach of Hawai'i" takes me home-- before the reality of tons of laundry and housework etc. etc. set in here.

Speaking of which...

Welcome home! We missed you!
Love,
Mary

I've never been to the Atlantic Ocean, but I do enjoy the Pacific.

Oh my goodness, I've never seen such clear sea water! Our seas have a dingy grey hue by comparison. Looks awesome :-)

We live on the atlantic ocean, it is lovely and we do not take advantage of it (10 minutes away) ... and my parents have a small beach 5 minutes away. Thanks for the lovely reminder. BTW, when we go on vacation we head to the mountains. I'll try to remember to post some pictures.
Peace,
judy

Suzanne, I have heard such stories and sometimes with less happy endings, but when I tell my family they all look at me as though I were a ridiculous alarmist. I remember nearly being pulled under myself as a kid. Glad to hear it's not just me. There really is some danger, even for a strong swimmer, isn't there.

Christine, thanks you. It was Vero Beach in Florida (Atlantic side.) It was really fun.

Thank you, Mariela.

Mary. I can imagine how much you must miss Hawaii. To have the ocean all around would be so amazing. it's good to be back. Glad to hear that even in Hawaii you count heads. (Guess I'm not nuts.)BTW, do you know what time pick up is at camp on Saturday?

Mimi, I have seen the Pacific from the air and from the coast of Japan, but I have never seen it from the U.S. west coast. Never thought of that before. I wonder if it's really calmer than the Atlantic.

Deb, it was a beautiful, clear day. That could make the water seem bluer, I guess. :-) It was really pretty.

Judy, the mountains would be a treat for us too. One thing about living in the midwest, you do never take for granted the splendor of the oceans or the mountains. How nice that you live near the ocean.

What great pictures Thanks for sharing them. What a good mama you are for keeping an eye on everyone.

My children are much younger and I watch them like a hawk around water. Somehow I don't think that is likely to change as they get older.

I marvel at how brave your kids are. I can't get more than knee-deep without hearing the music from Jaws!

Muddy mama, than you for visiting my blog. When my kids were little I wouldn't let them go past their knee. Now that they are ALL better swimmers than I am I fell I need to let go a little. Still count heads though, for my peace of mind.
